SECURITY AWARENESS: BEWARE OF FAKE TRANSACTION ALERTS

πŸš¨ SECURITY AWARENESS: BEWARE OF FAKE TRANSACTION ALERTS🚨

Business owners, traders, shop owners and service providers please be alert!

Fake transfer alerts are becoming a serious form of fraud. A fraudster may come to your business to purchase goods or services and tell you:

“I don't have cash or ATM. I will transfer the money to you.”

After you agree, the person may show you a fake SMS alert, fake bank notification, screenshot, or even a message appearing to show that the transaction was successful.

In some cases, the fraudster may say:

“I have transferred the money. You should receive the alert in a few minutes.”

They may then leave with your goods or receive your service. Unfortunately, no money was actually transferred, and after they leave, you may never see them again.

 πŸ›‘️ HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF

1. DON'T RELEASE GOODS BASED ON AN SMS ALERT ALONE.

An SMS can be forged or manipulated. Always confirm that the money is actually in your account.

2. CHECK YOUR BANK ACCOUNT BALANCE.

Log into your official banking app or use another trusted method to confirm the transaction.

3. CHECK YOUR TRANSACTION HISTORY.

Look for the actual incoming transaction in your account not just a notification displayed on a phone or POS.

4. DON'T TRUST SCREENSHOTS.

A screenshot showing “Successful” or “Transfer Completed” is not proof that you have received the money.

5. BE CAREFUL WITH “WAIT FOR THE ALERT” STORIES.

If someone claims they have transferred money but your account has not been credited, don't release the goods simply because they promise the alert will arrive later.

6. CONFIRM THE AMOUNT.

Make sure the exact amount you received matches the amount agreed upon.

7. DON'T ALLOW PRESSURE TO MAKE THE DECISION FOR YOU.

A customer may try to rush you by saying, “I am late,” “I have an emergency,” or “The transfer will soon reflect.” Take your time and verify.

8. IF POSSIBLE, USE YOUR BANK'S OFFICIAL CHANNELS.

For large transactions, independently verify the payment through your bank or other trusted banking channels before handing over valuable goods.

 πŸš¨ REMEMBER:

VERIFY THE CREDIT BEFORE YOU RELEASE THE GOODS.

Share this message with other business owners, traders, friends and family. One simple verification can prevent a costly loss.
